Pricing Coaching Alternatively Makes Room for More Diversity
During my Breathwork certification in April, I had this intuitive idea to create a package that would be offered in a donation-based capacity. This scared me. It seemed like a sure way to make no money. Nonetheless, I wanted to try it to see if what would happen.
Around that time, I was getting ready to create offers that included Breathwork. So I browsed around to see what type of offers other facilitators had out there. To my surprise, a lot of Breathwork facilitators had some sort of alternative pricing structure that they implemented. It was either pay what you can (PWYC), sliding scale, or special pricing for the BIPOC community.
This reminded me of my missionary days when the organization that I was affiliated with offered location-based pricing. They had 3 tiers of countries and depending on which category your country was in, you could receive a price reduction.

All this was happening simultaneously while I was working on my brand values for this website. One of the four brand values for my business is diversity. So implementing an alternative pricing structure felt like a good idea.
That's when I went to work on what I could implement to foster more of this diversity. Many Google searches, talks with my clients, signing up for a few offers, and some questions in my group, I settled on what I called the Sisterhood Support Payment Options for the Lady Coach Lounge. It was a beautiful way to support coaches. Eventually, it didn’t feel aligned with me anymore, so I let go of this pricing structure.
In case you're wondering, about what happened to the donation-based breathwork package, let me share the results. Five people signed up of which three showed up. Some paid more than I intended to charge for the program, while others paid less.
Accessible pricing structures is not for the faint of heart
My business is based on the premise of helping lady coaches build their business, their way. With that said, it's extremely important to understand that you cannot do that without knowing what your way is. I would highly suggest checking in with your intuition to see if this is the right path for your business.
Fostering diversity should not come at the cost of a coach's livelihood
Let's be clear, I don't believe everyone is meant to introduce alternative accessible pricing structures. In no way should it be used as a way to bypass pricing your worth. If that's not in check, it will be hard to make money no matter what pricing structure you implement.
Alternative accessible pricing should also not cost any coach their livelihood. I believe that everyone should feel rewarded for the coaching they provide. If someone introduces accessible pricing and ends up feeling like they're not rewarded, something has to change. This might be the time to reassess the pricing. Maybe limit the number of people who can get access to this form of pricing, introduce some other rules or simply remove the pricing structure.
